Verre Eglomise - Reverse Gilded Glass

Verre églomisé is a decorative technique in which gold or silver leaf is gilded to the back side of glass, engraved, sometimes back painted as well, and protected by a durable finish. In one method, the metal is adhered using a gelatine adhesive, which results in a mirror-like, reflective finish. The metal leaf may be applied using oil-based adhesives (gold size varnish) to achieve a matte finish.

Glass thickness

Verre églomisé is available in the following thicknesses 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 19mm.

Glass type

Float or low-iron (optic clear, without green tint) glass

Shapes

Verre églomisé can be fabricated in many shapes such as rectangular, circle, oval or any custom shape with either a drawing, picture or diagram of the shape. A pattern is required before glass cutting. This pattern is usually created from paper, wood or cardboard.

Edgework

Verre églomisé can be fabricated with large variety of glass edges : bevelled, flat polished edges, clean cut (untreated) edges or other
